Ahmedabad is set to witness the creation of a magnificent cultural arena following the grand success of the Statue of Unity in Narmada. The Ring of Unity (RoU) at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave in Motera promises to captivate both visitors and citizens alike.
Paying homage to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, after whom the Sports Enclave is named, the RoU is designed to host a multitude of art and cultural activities. From events and festivals to temporary stalls and markets, this state-of-the-art facility will attract people on a daily basis.
Government sources said that the ‘Ring’ will boast an overall diametre of 150 metres, featuring green spaces, walkways, an open plaza, and a lookout deck facing the river. An official stated, “Spread over 4 acres, the plaza itself will accommodate up to 5,000 people, with temporary structures capable of accommodating an additional 12,000 when needed. Moreover, it will be conveniently walkable from the metro stations.”
Tenders for all six proposed complexes at the Sports Enclave have already been issued, indicating the commencement of work by 2027-28. The completion of the complexes and other facilities is expected by 2030. However, residential buildings, which will be developed closer to the dates of the Olympics, may not be included in this timeline.
Devang Desai, AUDA chief executive officer, said, “The Sports Enclave, with a development cost of Rs 6,000 crore, will incorporate the RoU as part of its first phase. The RoU will also have a separate parking facility for visitors and can be converted into a sports ground when needed.”
Regarding the residential development within the 350-acre Sports Enclave, sources state that it will be constructed in the later stages, closer to the Olympic event.
